On-site consultation
An arborist visits your property to look at your trees, talk through options and quote the work.
What it is
During an on-site consultation, someone from the company walks your property with you, looks at the trees and explains what could be done, what is needed and what it would cost.
Some companies include a visit when they quote removal or pruning work. A longer visit that gives you written advice, such as a plan for the health of your trees, is usually a separate paid service.
Signs you might need it
- You are not sure what your tree needs
- You want a quote based on seeing the tree, not a photo
- You want to talk through options before choosing work
- You want a second opinion on work another company quoted
Good to know
A quote visit is about pricing work. A paid consultation gives you advice you can use even if you hire someone else. An arborist report or risk assessment is a formal written document.
Typical cost in Ontario
No Ontario price guide was reviewed for consultations. Many companies visit for free to quote removal or pruning work, while a longer advisory visit is usually priced per visit or per hour. Ask before booking.
What pushes the price up or down
- Length of the visit
- Number of trees
- Whether written advice is included
- Travel distance
Ways to spend less
- Ask whether the visit is free or paid before you book
- Ask who will attend and what credentials they hold
No published Ontario prices were reviewed, so no range is given. Prices are typical ranges gathered from published Ontario price guides and company price pages in September 2026, before 13% HST. They’re a guide, not a quote: your price depends on your tree and your property. Get two or three written quotes, and check whether your city charges a permit fee.
*Estimates are based on pricing in a mid-sized Ontario city. Prices in your area may be higher or lower, so adjust accordingly.
